Position Summary
The Vice President, Design & Technical Services will own the product and systems engineering ecosystem for the Metals business, ensuring that product designs are robust, scalable, compliant, and supportable across their full lifecycle. Lead engineering design, technical standards, drafting, new product introduction execution, and field technical services to ensure that what the business chooses to offer can be delivered reliably, profitably, and at scale.
This role is accountable for the technical integrity, execution, and performance of Metals products in the market and in the field, and partners closely with Product Management, Operations, Sales, and Quality to deliver differentiated, reliable, and sustainable solutions.
What This Looks Like
Key Responsibilities
Product & System Engineering: Own the design, architecture, and technical standards for Metals products and systems, ensuring they meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and internal performance and quality expectations.
Technical Execution: Translate product strategy and roadmaps into executable technical solutions through disciplined engineering, design governance, and cross-functional coordination.
New Product Introduction: Lead the engineering and technical execution of NPI, ensuring new products are designed, validated, documented, and supported for successful launch and sustained performance.
Field & Technical Services: Own field technical support and feedback loops, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and insights are fed back into product and design improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales to ensure technical decisions support portfolio strategy, manufacturability, quality, cost, and customer experience.
What You Will Lead
Engineering Design & Technical Architecture
Own product and system design, technical standards, and design governance across the portfolio.
Ensure designs are scalable, modular where appropriate, compliant, and aligned with long-term platform strategies.
Maintain clear ownership of technical decision-making and design integrity.
Drafting, Configuration & Technical Data
Own drafting, configuration rules, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and ease of use.
Ensure technical data supports CPQ, BIM, submittals, and downstream execution.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Lead engineering execution for new products and major enhancements through design, validation, pilot, and launch readiness.
Partner with Product Management to ensure technical feasibility, timing, and risk are clearly understood and managed.
Field Service & Technical Feedback
Own field technical services, escalation paths, and root-cause resolution of product and system issues.
Create closed-loop feedback between field experience and engineering improvements.
Quality, Compliance & Risk
Ensure products meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Partner with Quality and Operations to manage technical risk, product reliability, and continuous improvement.
Team Leadership
Build and lead high-performing engineering and technical services teams.
Establish clear operating cadence, capability development, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused problem solving.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a technical, scientific, or related field required.
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience and Skills
15+ years of progressive leadership experience in product engineering, systems engineering, technical services, or related functions.
Experience in complex, configured, or engineered products; building products or industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical organizations and deliver scalable, reliable solutions.
Strong systems thinking and ability to integrate design, execution, quality, and field performance.
Demonstrated success building teams, developing talent, and driving accountability.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
Travel
Work Conditions
Hybrid schedule with an expectation of being in the office a minimum of three days per week, and flexibility for occasional early or extended hours based on business priorities.
Prolonged computer work and frequent plant and jobsite visits.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally for samples or equipment.
Valid driver’s license.
Salary range for this position is $190,000 - 230,000 + annual bonus opportunity.
